It seems that rather than abandon their worldview, many young people are abandoning their lives altogether. I am disturbed to see the number of suicides and suicide attempts by those between the ages of fourteen and twenty-five. Many of their suicide notes report they had lost meaning, purpose and a sense that life held any value. This is no longer just about philosophy. I am talking about the rise of young people who distrust the world. They do not want to be part of it anymore. They are seceding from society and beginning to live apart from it. Either they are too busy with their own lives, finding meaning in other parts of the world, or they are so alienated from their peers that they no longer want to be a part of a group.

They do not want to be a part of a community, a tribe or even a family. Many of them have given up on life and do not care about the future at all. Even if things go back to normal, I fear that they will not care because they have given up on their lives here on Earth.
